3-Day Selous Safari in Tanzania from Zanzibar

Day 01

Fly from Zanzibar to Dar es Salaam - Selous

This morning, take a flight from Zanzibar to Dar es Salaam where you will be greeted by your safari guide. Upon arrival in Dar es Salaam around 08:00 hrs, your driver will transfer you directly to Selous Game Reserve, reaching by lunchtime. After settling in at your lodge or camp and enjoying a hot lunch, you will head to the jetty for a boat safari on the Great Rufiji. Witness crocodiles, hippos, black and white colobus monkeys, various bird species like fish eagles, pied kingfishers, giant kingfishers, and other wildlife quenching their thirst. Keep an eye out for crocodiles hunting their prey and the possibility of witnessing animal interactions. After enjoying the sunset views, return to your lodge/camp for dinner and overnight stay at Selous Tented Camp or Selous Mapumziko Lodge situated along the banks of Rufiji River.

Day 02    Exploring Selous Game ReserveStart your day with an early breakfast at your camp/lodge before entering Selous Game Reserve for a full day of wildlife viewing in Africa's largest game reserve.

Spent the entire day exploring the reserve, embarking on wildlife game drives to spot animals and birds such as gazelles, giraffes, impalas, elephants, wildebeests, kudus, zebras, and with luck, the rare African wild dogs. Named after the renowned explorer Frederick Selous, the reserve was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its vast unspoiled African wilderness covering an area roughly the size of Switzerland. The reserve's landscape boasts diverse topography, from savannah woodlands to rolling grasslands and ancient rocky outcrops formed by the Rufiji River. Look out for big cats like leopards and lion prides. Overnight at Selous Tented Camp or Selous Mapumziko Lodge with all meals included.

Day 03    Walking Safari in Selous - Fly from Dar Es Salaam to ZanzibarEnjoy an early breakfast before embarking on a walking safari within Selous Game Reserve, offering a unique opportunity to get up close to wildlife and explore the African wilderness on foot. For safety, you will be accompanied by an armed ranger who is also a trained naturalist. Following the walking safari, return to Dar es Salaam by road, arriving in the late afternoon. Proceed to Dar es Salaam International Airport for your flight back to Zanzibar Island.
